Software developer looking for job opportunities in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area
Hi!
I am writing this application letter in English as it is my stronger language when compared to Finnish, but I am happy to continue discussions in Finnish if you prefer.
I am open to any software development job, not just web development.
I have been working for over 4 years at Kide Science, a small education start-up. As a 2-person tech team, with Design and User Research help and a larger pedagogical team, we’ve been planning, building, and maintaining the company’s platforms. We have had general freedom of choice in our tech decisions, and have mostly used for example, Typescript, Node.js (Express.js for a REST API), React, PostgreSQL, Cloudflare, and Heroku. I have no doubt I will be able to learn what new technologies are needed in this job, as my studies were more focused on ”learning how to learn” rather than on specific technologies, and this is what I put into practice in my work life. I have gained experience in building new projects, as well as maintaining existing ones and sunsetting older ones. As a small team with limited resources, work has inevitably been very multi-disciplinary, be it tech support, helping the design and pedagogical teams gather user insights, monitoring the office network’s security, leading cybersecurity workshops for employees, organizing photoshoots, setting up automated testing and deployments, holding workshops to help non-tech people with troubles of remote/hybrid work… I learned to be very independent when needed, and to communicate with other colleagues and partners, whether or not they have tech knowledge.
An area where I am maybe lacking in professional experience is in DevOps, but I do have personal experience, from generally having fun tinkering to self-hosting a suite of services I use day to day.
More about me: I am a 27-year-old software developer, originally from France, and I have been living in Finland for around 6 years. My hobbies go from the high-tech (tinkering with Linux, video games) to the low-tech (scouting, hiking, knitting), with some in between (cycling, digital and film photography). My Finnish is still not good enough to call it 100% fluent, but very close to work-proficiency and sufficient for day-to-day life, scouting with younger children that don’t speak English, and, for example, passing First Aid courses with minimal English help. I am sure spending a few months in a Finnish-speaking workplace would bring me very close to fluency. I also speak fluent English (without a dreaded French accent) and my native French.
Feel free to contact me for any questions and additional information, by email, phone, WhatsApp, Signal, or anything that works for you.
Please find attached a recommendation letter from my previous employer.
Thank you for hopefully taking the time to review my application, and kind regards,
Tanguy

*Recommendation letter for Tanguy*
Tanguy has worked for our company Kide Science (https://www.kidescience.com/en/) from the Spring 2021, and based on my genuinely delightful experiences having him as a colleague, I can warmly recommend Tanguy as a team member to full-stack developer jobs.
Tanguy joined our company as an intern, and he quickly proved his capabilities and throughout the years has exceeded our expectations many times. Nowadays I can say he is a professional of his field, who can:
– Build and maintain web-based platforms in a very good quality. My founder colleagues from other companies have been jealous of our tech team, who delivers functionalities our customers need with ease and without having to constantly fix major issues. The practices he has followed in his work makes our product easy to use, safe and delightful for the user.
– Solve business and product problems together with a multifunctional team including tech, design, sales, pedagogy and user research. He has been able to communicate tech to the team as a thing that helps us achieve goals our users or internal team needs, and that there are multiple different ways and scales that problems can be solved.
– Work in an agile way: get things delivered to users fast, learn from feedback and iterate when needed.
– Use all his skills to aim for a common goal. Example: he doesn’t just stick to his official job description when there’s a goal to achieve – he wraps up his sleeves to help with photoshoots, make a colleague feel better on a rough day, carry a table, fix issues with a printer or give ideas to fun science experiments.
On top of these qualities Tanguy is warm, caring, passionate and easy to co-operate with. When there is something he feels strongly about, he can communicate it in a kind and also firm way. And If you have a common interest with him (ours is birds ❤️), he’ll recognise it and deliver memes on the topic, which makes things extra fun.
If these are the qualities you are looking for from a colleague and a team member, please consider Tanguy to join your team.
